Hitchd, the Australian honeymoon registry, has posted a notice on its home page. It reads: "Hitchd is closing on 31 December 2026. We're no longer accepting new customers. We'll continue supporting existing customers until then." We checked the page on 3 November 2026.
That is the whole notice. It does not say what happens to registry pages, gift money or the links you have shared after that date. If you have a Hitchd registry, the answers for your account sit with Hitchd, so log in, read any emails they have sent you, and contact Hitchd support with your questions. This guide covers the practical steps either way.
What the notice does and does not say
The notice says three things:
- Hitchd is closing on 31 December 2026.
- It is no longer accepting new customers.
- It will continue supporting existing customers until then.
It does not say:
- whether registry pages and guest links will stay online after 31 December
- how or when money still in a Hitchd account will be paid out after that date
- whether you can export your gift list or guest messages
Until Hitchd tells you otherwise, plan as if your page and link will not be there in the new year.
If your event is before 31 December 2026
Your registry has work to do before the closing date, so keep it running. The steps below are sensible precautions. None of them assume anything will go wrong.
Keep the Hitchd page live. Guests who were sent your link expect it to work. If your wedding is in November or December, there is little to gain from moving everything weeks before the day, unless Hitchd support advises you to.
Confirm your payout settings and bank details. Log in to Hitchd and check that the bank account on file is current, then look at how and when your gifts are paid out. If anything is unclear, ask support now while they are answering questions, not in the last week of December.
Download or screenshot your gift list and guest messages. Do this today. Record each item, its price, what has been given, who gave it and what they wrote. If there is an export option in your account, use it. If not, screenshots will do. Store a copy somewhere other than your phone.
Send thank-yous before the closing date. Your record of who gave what is safest while the page is still up. If you are stuck for words, our wedding thank-you card wording guide has lines for cash and honeymoon gifts.
If your event is after 31 December 2026
You need a new registry. A Hitchd page that may go dark before your wedding is not somewhere to send guests, and the notice gives you no reason to assume it will stay up. The rebuild is four steps, and they work on any platform.
Step 1: Record the old list
Before you change anything, capture what you built. That means every item with its name, description, price and photo, plus anything guests have already given and the messages that came with it. You will use the item list to rebuild, and the gift record to thank people and avoid asking anyone to give twice.
Step 2: Rebuild on a new platform
Pick a platform that suits the way your guests give. Some couples want a pure cash fund. Others want a mix of honeymoon items and a few things for the house. Our comparison of registry options in Australia sets out hybrid, cash-only and department-store lists side by side. If you are mainly after a honeymoon fund, the best honeymoon fund page is a checklist of what to compare before you pick one, and the best wedding registry page sets out what to look for in a wedding registry.
Check the fees before you commit. Every platform handles card processing differently, and our breakdown of wishing well and honeymoon fund fees shows who pays what on each route. For how a fund works end to end, from setup to tax, see our honeymoon fund guide.
Step 3: Update every link you have shared
This is the step people forget. Go through every place your old Hitchd link appears:
- your wedding website
- invitations and save-the-dates, including any printed QR code
- emails or messages already sent to guests
- social posts and group chats
- anything a parent or wedding party member has passed on for you
Printed invitations cannot be changed. If yours carry a Hitchd QR code, make a new code that points to your new registry and use it on everything printed from here on, such as an insert, a reminder card or the welcome sign. You can make one with the free QR code generator. Our guide to sharing your registry has more ways to get the new link in front of guests.
Step 4: Send guests a short note
Tell guests the link has changed, give them the new one, and thank anyone who has already given. Keep it brief. There is a message you can copy further down.
Rebuilding on EasyRegistry
EasyRegistry runs this blog, so read this section as our own account of what the platform does. Everything here comes from the pricing page and the FAQ, checked on 3 November 2026.
Nothing carries over from Hitchd automatically. You add the items yourself from the record you made in step 1, and gifts already given through Hitchd are handled by Hitchd, so confirm each one in your Hitchd account and with Hitchd support.
Cost. Creating and sharing a registry is free. On the free plan, guests can give by cash, bank transfer, in-store purchase and Revolut. Premium is an optional one-off A$39 per registry. It adds credit card and PayPal payments, and EasyRegistry will source images for your gifts. Most new registries start with a Premium trial of up to 14 days, which ends sooner once your event is less than a week away. After the trial, your registry carries on with the free plan.
Card fees. Card processing fees are passed through at the processor's standard rate and come off the gift; see the pricing page and the FAQ, which links to the processor's current rates for details.
Payout. Stripe holds card gifts in your own Stripe account. For registries set up for payout on closing, which is the standard Australian setup, the funds are released to your bank account as a lump sum when you close the registry. Bank transfers and cash go straight to you.
Honeymoon items. You can add any item, such as flights, a night's accommodation or a day tour, with your own image and price. Guests can contribute any amount to a gift, so a big item can be shared across several people, and wishing-well style gifts are supported too. The travel registry page shows the kind of items couples add.
Messages and records. Guests can leave a message with their gift, and your admin area lists every contribution, so you know who gave what when you sit down to write thank-yous.
A note you can send guests
Change the parts in square brackets. This version suits an email or a card:
Hi [name],
A quick update on our registry. Hitchd, the site we were using, is closing on 31 December 2026, so we have moved our registry to a new page: [new link]. Please use this link from now on.
If you have already given a gift through the old page, thank you so much. We have it noted, and there is nothing more you need to do.
Having you with us on [date] is what matters most to us. We can't wait to celebrate with you.
With love, [your names]
And a shorter one for the group chat:
Quick update: our registry has moved because Hitchd is closing. The new link is [new link]. If you have already given on the old page, thank you, you don't need to do anything else.
If you would like more options for the wording, our honeymoon fund wording collection has lines for every tone. And if asking for money still feels awkward, read our take on whether it's rude to ask for money instead of wedding gifts.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still make a Hitchd registry?
No. The notice on Hitchd's home page says it is no longer accepting new customers.
Will my Hitchd link keep working after 31 December?
The notice does not say. Ask Hitchd support about your account, and in the meantime update your shared links so guests are not relying on a page that may not be there after the closing date.
Do guests need an account on EasyRegistry?
No. EasyRegistry's best honeymoon fund page says guests check out with no account required, and the FAQ describes the guest side like this: guests browse the gifts you suggest, make a selection and contribute as much as they like through one of several payment options. They can leave a message with their gift.
What does it cost to move?
On EasyRegistry, creating and sharing a registry is free, and guests can give by cash, bank transfer, in-store purchase and Revolut on the free plan. Card and PayPal payments need Premium, an optional one-off A$39 per registry. Other platforms price things differently, so check each one against our fees breakdown before you choose.
What if a guest already gave on Hitchd?
That gift was made through Hitchd, so confirm it in your Hitchd account and with Hitchd support, including how and when it will be paid out, then thank the guest as you would for any other gift. Don't ask them to give again on the new registry, and make sure your note to guests says they don't need to.
